Book Your First Visit

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Your first visit as a new patient is a time dedicated especially to you, where you and Dr. Alex will have one on one time to discuss your goals and concerns. During our 90 minute evaluation we will gather records, evaluate the Core 4 (learn more about it below) and together discuss your treatment options, how to prevent future dental problems and formulate a plan so we can help you achieve your oral health goals.

STEP 1

Your dental records

YOUR DENTAL RECORDS

Photos, digital x-rays and scan

Healthy teeth

PHOTOS

Pictures are worth a thousand words. When you and Dr. Alex can evaluate your photos together, it allows for better communication and understanding of the goals for your oral health. Therefore, a full set of 8 pictures are a standard part of your dental records.

Digital X-rays

DIGITAL X-RAYS

We are proud to be a fully digital dental practice. That means instant visibility of the X-rays we take, and more importantly, far less radiation exposure to you. We will tailor our radiographic records based on your individual needs and risks for dental disease.

Dental Scan

SCAN

Your records may include a digital scan. This is a 3D model of your teeth and gums that allows us to track changes in your teeth and gums over time in amazing detail. With this technology, we can also instantly see what your smile would look like with Invisalign!

STEP 2

Your cleaning

NOW ITS TIME FOR YOUR CLEANING

Dental Hygiene

Dental Hygienist Lissa Mendieta and Damaris Agurcia

There’s no feeling like the feeling you have right after a dental hygiene visit. With our superstar hygienists (or “hygeniuses”) Brittany and Damaris you will walk out feeling like your smile could light up a room. Through regular cleanings, we establish healthy smiles and happy visits!

During your cleaning, we will discuss using an electric toothbrush and what an amazing difference it can make in having better check-ups. Electric toothbrushes make it easy to more thoroughly the nooks and crooks in between teeth and along the gum line.

FAQs

How can I prepare for my first visit?

Be prepared to discuss your current health history. It may be helpful to jot down current medications and supplements, as well as dental concerns and questions that you may have. We may request dental records from other offices and information about your dental insurance.

What if I don’t have dental insurance?

During your visit, our tooth tribe works with you to ease any financial anxieties that you may have about the cost of treatment. We offer many payment options, including affordable financing through CareCredit®. We also offer an in-house membership plan as a no-strings-attached alternative to insurance. Routine services are covered, and you get a generous discount on all other services and procedures at our office.

Why do you need to know about my general health?

What happens in your mouth affects your system, and what happens in your system affects your mouth.

That’s why Dr. Alex and Dr. Tarte take the time to do a thorough medical review at every comprehensive exam. We want to understand the whole picture—your conditions, your medications, your risk factors, and anything that may impact your oral health or your treatment. Being open with us about what’s going on in your life and your health helps us care for you safely, effectively, and personally.

Our goal is simple: to support your total well-being, not just your smile. When we look at your health, we look at all of you—because you deserve care that treats you like a whole person, not just a mouth.

What if it’s been a long time since seeing a dentist?

We welcome the opportunity to care for you, and it is our privilege to treat you! From the moment you enter our office, we aim to offer a VIP experience. From little touches like dimmed lights and soothing lavender towels, we strive to put you at ease and to create new, positive experiences with dentistry. Also, our tooth tribe empathizes with the challenges that often keep individuals away from the dental care they need. You will never feel judged or dismissed here. You will be heard and understood.

Why do you need to clean my teeth?

Brushing and flossing at home is essential to your health, but it must be complemented by professional care. We have the tools and the skills to remove stubborn substances (like tartar) that cannot be removed with your toothbrush or floss.

Can you tell if I’m not brushing or flossing my teeth?

Inadequate oral care is a risk factor for problems like tartar build-up and deep pockets between the teeth and gums (a symptom of gum disease). These problems can be signs of not brushing or flossing consistently or thoroughly. Likewise, you may be brushing or flossing too aggressively, which can show up as receding gums, exposed roots, enamel erosion, and tooth sensitivity. Our tooth tribe provides suggestions to help you care for your smile better.

What else are you checking?

At Semidey Dental, your checkup goes far beyond a quick glance. We evaluate what we call the Core Four—your teeth, gums, TMJ (jaw joint), and your oral tissues through a thorough oral cancer screening. This creates the foundation of an exceptional baseline exam, and many patients tell us it’s the most complete checkup they’ve ever had.

1. Teeth

We examine each tooth for cavities, cracks, early signs of decay, and any structural concerns like excessive wear. We also evaluate your bite pattern—how your teeth come together—because properly aligned teeth distribute forces correctly, helping them stay stronger and healthier for years.

2. Gums

Your gums are one of the best indicators of whole-body health. We check for inflammation, bleeding, or pocketing that could signal gingivitis or periodontal disease. This matters because of the powerful oral–systemic link—the health of your mouth impacts the health of the rest of your body, including your heart, brain, digestive system, immune function, and even mood.

3. TMJ (Jaw Joint)

Stress affects nearly all of us, and for many people, that stress shows up in the jaw. We evaluate all aspects of the TMJ—the jaw joints, the surrounding muscles, your bite forces, and signs of clenching or grinding. Catching any issues , or dysfunction, early helps prevent cracked teeth, headaches, facial pain, and long-term joint problems.

4. Oral Cancer Screening

One American dies every hour from oral cancer, which is why we perform a thorough, noninvasive oral cancer screening once a year. It takes about two minutes and includes checking all tissues—inside the cheeks, lips, palate, and especially around and under the tongue—to make sure everything is healthy and clear.

By checking the Core Four, we’re not just looking at your smile—we’re protecting your overall health so you can feel better, look better, and live longer.
